Jenny Krauss started out to help native women in the troubled South American nation of Bolivia and now heads an international toy company that helps support families while turning heads with its amazing designs.
To say Kinderware's toys are unique is an exercise in understatement.
The company's trademark designs, the "yo-yo doll" and the "dot doll" are catching the eyes and hearts of toy-lovers the world over - both the child and grown-up variety.
The Aymara Indians of La Paz still hand-make all the Kinderware dolls, but such is the popularity of the toys and of their work they now create toys in their thousands.
Jenny said the work provided through Kinderware gave those women enough money for them to support their families.
Jenny started Kinderware after years of working as sculptor and studying for a masters degree in art and art history.
She's still doing the same thing, in a way.
Inspired by vintage dolls and all things hand-made, Jenny designs each of the toys before handing them to the Bolivian toy-makers to create.
'The dolls have been safety tested for infants but people of all ages love them,' she said.
'They're hand sewn according to fair trade guidelines, they're beautiful, cuddly and unique.' |
